Taking birth control pills is not an effective protection against sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea or HIV. |

If Enpresse causes upset stomach, take it with food. Take the pill the same time each day. This will also help you get into the habit of taking the medication. You should read and follow the instructions for your medication. Make sure to follow the dosing schedule. Take care to follow your doctor's instructions carefully if you are using this as a "morning after" pill. |

Taking Nordette may cause you to have lightheadedness, dizziness, headache, bloating, stomach upset, or nausea. Talk to your doctor if these symptoms persist or become bothersome. If you experience more severe side effects, groin or calf pain, such as severe depression, sudden severe headache, chest pain, lumps in the breast, weakness or tingling in the arms or legs, shortness of breath, yellowing of the eyes or skin, talk to your doctor, as well as if you notice any other side effects not listed here. |

Before giving you a prescription for Nordette, your doctor will want to know your complete medical history, including any kidney disease, history of jaundice (yellowing skin/eyes) or high blood pressure during pregnancy, excessive weight gain or fluid retention during menstrual cycle, diabetes, heart attack, high blood pressure, seizures, asthma, liver heart disease, blood clots, migraine headaches, stroke, breast cancer, high blood level of cholesterol or lipids (fats), depression. When taken in larger doses, this medication can cause darkening of the skin in patches, which is known as melasma. It's worse when you are exposed to the sun, so wear sunscreen and protective clothing. You should limit your time in the sun or under sun lamps. It may take a long time to become pregnant once you stop taking birth control pills. If you become pregnant, you should not continue to take Nordette. The medication is excreted in breast milk and is potentially harmful to infants. Do not use this pill if you are breast feeding. Smoking cigarettes while taking this prescription may increase your risk of negative side effects such as gallbladder disease, high blood pressure, heart attacks, strokes, vision problems, or liver tumors. Take the time to read your patient information sheets and ask questions about any point you are not clear on. Near sighted women or contact wearers may experience a change in their vision or a decreased tolerance for their lenses. Talk to your eye doctor. If you are schedule for any surgery, even dental surgery, tell your doctor that you use this medication. |

Tell your doctor what prescription and nonprescription drugs you are taking. Drugs that may decrease the effectiveness of the pill include: griseofulvin, many antibiotics (e.g., penicillins, macrolides, tetracyclines, sulfas, cephalosporins), chloramphenicol, many seizure medications (e.g., phenytoin, barbiturates, primidone, carbamazepine), dapsone, rifamycins (e.g., rifampin), modafinil, nevirapine, nelfinavir, ritonavir, St John's wort, troglitazone. Ask your doctor if you should use additional birth control methods while taking any of the drugs mentioned above while taking birth control pills. Also tell your doctor if you use: thyroid hormone drugs, certain benzodiazepines (e.g., diazepam, chlordiazepoxide), prednisone-like drugs, certain antidepressants (e.g., tricyclics), beta-blockers (e.g., metoprolol), "blood thinners" (anticoagulants such as warfarin), insulin. This product can affect the results of certain lab tests (e.g., thyroid). Inform all laboratory personnel that you use this drug. Birth control pills may significantly intensify the effects of alcohol. Consult your doctor or pharmacist about this. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. |

You should not smoke cigarettes and use Nordette at the same time. Smoking increases your risk of developing heart problems. This risk also increases with age, especially in women over 35, and in those who smoke more than 15 cigarettes per day. |
