Prevacid Directions? |
| |
Prevacid is generally prescribed for once a day, but some people need to take two doses a day. It's best to take it at least an hour before a meal, since taking it closer or after a meal limits the amount your body absorbs. The tablet should be swallowed whole and not crushed or broken. Those who have a hard time swallowing pills can open the capsule and combine the contents with a spoonful of applesauce. Make sure to swallow the applesauce all at once and without chewing. Do not alter your doses or take more or less than directed. |

Prevacid Side Effects? |
| |
Those who use Prevacid report some mild side effects such as stomach pain or nausea. Talk to your doctor if they bother you. Seek medical attention for more serious side effects such as rapid heartbeat, changes in stool color, chest pain, muscle pain, stomach pain, diarrhea, breathing trouble, mood changes, or vision changes. If you have any symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as dizziness, difficulty breathing, itching, or swelling, report them to your doctor. |

Prevacid Warnings? |
| |
If you want to take Prevacid, your doctor must be familiar with all other prescriptions and over the counter products that you use. This includes digoxin, sucralfate, theophylline, ampicillin, iron, or ketoconazole. Do not stop or start any medications without letting your doctor know. If you have had a reaction to Omeprazole/Lansoprazole, you may have an allergic reaction to Prevacid. |

Prevacid Drug Interactions? |
| |
Prevacid can limit the effectiveness of other drugs. One example is sucralfate (Carafate). Taking this together with Prevacid will limit the amount of Prevacid that enters your system, so you should take Prevacid at least 30 minutes before any sucralfate. Other drugs that will be less effective include ampicillin (Omnipen, Principen), digoxin (Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps), ketoconazole (Nizoral), and iron (Feosol, Mol-Iron, Fergon, Femiron), so make sure your doctor is aware if you are using any of these medications. |
Prevacid Missed Dose? |
| |
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take only the next regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose of this medication unless your doctor directs otherwise. |
Prevacid Storage? |
| |
Prevacid should be stored out of the reach of children. It should be kept in a place free of moisture and sunlight, and at room temperature. |
